The Good News…
Deanna Kulpa is The Worst Poet in Ann Arbor (according to a select few who actually showed up at the Bad Slam). Her “Go Fish Face” kicked my crappy poem’s ass, as well as the poem by Larry Francis, which, frankly, was a bit too good to be in a bad slam. (Okay, it was good in a bad way, but still…)
The Bad News…
The Ann Arbor Poetry Slam is temporarily (I repeat, TEMPORARILY) discontinued, until I can either A) Figure out how to get more people into the Heidelberg, or B) Find a new venue, and figure out how to get more people into there, wherever there is. I’m looking into a few new there’s, but haven’t had a strong comfirmation yet. Sadly, our age-old stomping ground, the Heidelberg, is utterly indifferent as to whether we stay or go, which gives me a strong sense of, well, we should probably go. (In fact, I’m not entirely sure they even know we’re doing the show there — that’s how oblivious they are.)
I’m looking into the Sh/aut gallery, but am open to suggestions.
I am very, truly, sorry about all of this, but I want you to know that I still wield the albatross, and will endeavor to set this ship right as soon as I’m able — and I will immediately let you know the details.
Thanks.

What better way to ring in the new year than to share your most awful poems for cash prizes. According to the database, I remain The Worst Poet in Ann Arbor. Someone, please, take this belt from me on Monday the 4th of January, in the Heidelberg’s Alpine Diningroom at 8pm.
Pretty Please?

End of the Year Feature: Eric Darby!

Hey Folks,
There won’t be a slam on the 28th, so end the decade with Eric Darby and the Ann Arbor Poetry Slam this Monday, the 21st, 8PM, in the Alpine Diningroom of the Heidelberg. Eric plans to expose his academia nuts — figuratively, of course — though I just might let a nipple slip. What better way to celebrate the holiday season than to fondly recall what a fantastic and wonderful decade this has been for all of us, while in close proximity to a well-stocked bar?
This is also your first chance to qualify for the 2010 Ann Arbor Poetry Slam Team, and it also marks our first, hopefully in time annual, anti-tea-party bash (Coffee party?). So stick a finger in Sean Hannity’s eye by showing up this Monday at the Heidelberg.
We’ll return the first week in January to find out who removes my belt as the Worst Poet in Ann Arbor at the Bad Poetry Slam. (Please, please take this cursed belt!)
Peace.

Due to illness, we are unable to bring the slam to the Heidelberg’s Alpine Diningroom this Monday evening, Dec. 14. I apologize (again) for the late notice. But, You will not, I repeat NOT, want to miss next week’s show, with feature Eric Darby. We spent numerous Nationals together (though not always on the same team), and he brings the poetic high heat.
On a note related to tonight’s cancellation, there’s a job opening at Ann Arbor Poetry Slam for co-conspirator. (That is, someone who can slog the albatross into H-berg on occasions such as this one. Submit applications to treadway67 at sbcglobal.net.
We are also looking for future feature suggestions. Send these to the same address.
Peace.

Looks like we scored our first official feature since our, um, triumphant return. Eric Darby will be our special guest on December 21, at the AAPS in the Heidelberg’s Alpine Dining Room, 8pm. He’s a terrific poet and all-around great guy. Don’t believe me? Check out his snazzy website at http://www.ericdarby.net.
I’m very much looking forward to it. If you’re nervous about it though, you might want to stop in next week as well, just to warm up for him.

PS — we’re on facebook now, too. Come be a friend.
