I. What was being investigated
What was being investigated:
At the award presentation stage of the NPS finals night show on August 13, 2005 a number of poets on or associated with competing teams staged a brief on-stage protest of verbal chastisement, crossed arms, and refused to leave the stage for a period of time. They eventually moved from the stage during the course of a presented poem (post-competition).
Other allegations arose during the investigative process: booing from backstage (supposedly from the competing ABQ team), as well as the suggestion of a possible exchange of violent threats between an organizer and at least one poet.
What this investigation attempted to resolve:
1) Did competing teams boo other competing teams during the finals night show?
2) Were acts of violence committed on stage (or backstage)? By whom? Against whom?
3) Was the onstage protest “justified?” If yes, should there be any repercussions? If no, what repercussions are warranted?
